You are invited to the 2021 MBA Pierce Housing Summit, presented by Brookfield Properties and Phillips Burgess PLLC. Come join us on September 23, 2021 at 8:00 a.m. at the Pioneer Park Pavilion in Puyallup to hear the 2021 Housing Overview and Economic Forecast and more.

MBA Pierce is prioritizing the safety of attendees at this in-person, indoor event. Because of this, we will be following to-date CDC guidelines.

Senator Chris Gildon
|  Legislative Update

Senator Chris Gildon first won election to the Washington State House of Representatives in 2018 and was recently elected to the state Senate in 2020. He represents the 25th Legislative District which includes Puyallup, South Hill, Fife, Summit-Waller, and part of Parkland.

Chris has proven leadership experience -- not only as a 23-year veteran Army Officer with five overseas deployments and earning two bronze star medals -- but also as a legislator who has earned a reputation as being a calm voice of reason in Olympia.

Chris serves on the Senate's Human Services, Reentry and Rehabilitation Committee; Housing and Local Government Committee; Rules Committee; and its budget-writing Ways and Means Committee. He is also the Senate Republican deputy floor leader. In addition to his legislative committee assignments, Chris serves on the board of directors for the Washington State Institute for Public Policy, which conducts nonpartisan research to inform public policymaking. He also serves on the Joint Committee on Veterans? and Military Affairs and the Economic Development Committee, which considers regional economic issues, for the Western division of The Council of State Governments. In addition to his service in the legislature, Chris works as commercial real estate broker with Keller Williams Commercial in Puyallup.

Chris earned a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Texas. He also holds a master's degree in public administration from Webster University and a master of strategic security studies from the National Defense University. Chris lives in Puyallup with his wife, Autumn. They have been married 27 years and have two adult children.

Representative 
Andrew Barkis
|  Legislative Update

Andrew Barkis represents the 2nd District. He was appointed in February 2016 to fill the vacancy of Graham Hunt.

Andrew was born and raised in Chehalis. He is a graduate of Seattle University with a degree in Communications. Andrew's personal knowledge and experience as a local business owner foster his priorities to have limited, but effective government that is focused on being fiscally responsible, creating more jobs, and enhancing small business growth within the 2nd District and state.

Andrew and his wife, Lisa, live in Olympia and have been married for 23 years. They have two sons and enjoy doing anything outdoors, especially hiking and camping around the Pacific Northwest. Andrew is active in several community organizations including the Lacey Chamber Commerce, Yelm Chamber of Commerce, Gateway Rotary, Lacey Sunrise Lions, and the National Federation of Independent Businesses.

 

Councilmember
Marty Campbell

   Pierce County

Marty Campbell is a longtime entrepreneur and resident of Tacoma's eastside. A County Councilmember since 2019, he has also served the residents of Tacoma as a Tacoma City Councilmember from 2010-2017 and as Deputy Mayor in 2013.

Marty is a tireless advocate for improving the community he serves. Working to ensure funding for public safety, domestic violence services, and homelessness. Marty is also passionate about looking for opportunities to use alternative energy sources.

Marty Campbell (District 5) serves the communities of Midland, North Clover Creek/Collins, Parkland, Spanaway, Summit View, Summit-Waller, Tacoma's Eastside & South End.  

 

Mayor Victoria Woodards

   City of Tacoma

Victoria Woodards has called the "City of Destiny" her home for nearly her entire life. She is a proud graduate of Tacoma's Lincoln High School and served as a soldier in the United States Army.

Before becoming Mayor in 2018, she served for seven years as an at-large member of the City Council. During that time, she launched the City's Equity and Empowerment initiative which led to the establishment of its Office of Equity and Human Rights. She also brought partner organizations together for then President Barack Obama's My Brother's Keeper initiative, and spearheaded the City's Project PEACE initiative which bridged community members with the Tacoma Police Department. 

Some of her other leadership roles as Tacoma's mayor include positions on the Puget Sound Regional Council Executive Board, Sound Transit Board, Tacoma-Pierce County Economic Development Board, Pierce Transit Board, Foundation for Tacoma Students Board, and the Workforce Central Board. In partnership with County Executive Bruce Dammeier and County Council Member Connie Ladenburg, she also convened elected leaders from across Pierce County for Mayoral Roundtable to explore opportunities for regional collaboration on the issue of housing attainability in the region, an initiative that formally came to be known as the 'South Sound Housing Affordability Partners. > Full Biography

Matthew Gardner 
|  Economic Forecast 

As Chief Economist for Windermere Real Estate, Matthew Gardner is responsible for analyzing and interpreting economic data and its impact on the real estate market on both a local and national level. Matthew has over 28 years of professional experience both in the U.S. and U.K.
 
In addition to his day-to-day responsibilities, Matthew also sits on the Washington State Governors Council of Economic Advisors; chairs the Board of Trustees at the Washington Center for Real Estate Research at the University of Washington; and is an Advisory Board Member at the Runstad Center for Real Estate Studies at the University of Washington where he also lectures in real estate economics. Matthew is also one of a select number of economists who provide their housing market forecasts to Reuters for their Home Price Forecast Survey and also participates in Zillow's Home Price Expectation Survey.
